English courtier and nobleman (1504-1536); brother of Anne Boleyn
He was executed for incest with his sister — Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife. The charge was almost certainly invented, part of the machinery that cleared Anne from the throne and sent both siblings to the block on the same political sweep.
George Boleyn was born around 1504 into a family that would briefly touch the center of English power. When his sister Anne married Henry VIII, George became a prominent figure at court in the early 1530s, adopting the courtesy title Viscount Rochford after their father's elevation to Earl of Wiltshire and Earl of Ormond in 1529. He was the maternal uncle of the future Elizabeth I, though he would not live to see her reign. In 1536, as Anne fell from favor and stood trial for high treason, George was accused of incest with her. Both were convicted. Both were executed on 17 May 1536.
