Born 9 November 1975, Gareth Edmund Malone is an English choirmaster and broadcaster who calls himself an "animateur, presenter and populariser of choral singing." His television work, especially The Choir, built a format around a simple wager: take groups with no choral background and coax them into harmony. The premise caught on, and Malone became the face of accessible, participatory music-making on British screens. In 2012 he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to music - recognition that his real work was never just conducting, but opening the door.
