Frédéric Bazille painted figures sprawling through landscapes during the Impressionist push of the 1860s, blending portraiture with outdoor light. His career was cut short when he died in the Franco-Prussian War at 28.
Jean Frédéric Bazille was a French Impressionist painter. Many of Bazille's major works are examples of figure painting in which he placed the subject figure within a landscape painted en plein air.
