German Roman Catholic clergyman (1932-2024), Bishop of the Diocese of Limburg
Franz Kamphaus was a German Catholic prelate, bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Limburg. He was bishop of the diocese from 1982 after teaching pastoral theology and homiletics at the University of Münster. He was the only German bishop to oppose Pope John Paul II in the matter of counseling pregnant women in conflict situations. After his term ended in 2007, he took residence in the St. Vincenzstift, Aulhausen, a home for people with physical and mental disabilities, where he first served as priest.
