About this person
Frances Tiafoe Jr. was born January 20, 1998, to Sierra Leonean immigrants, and grew up training at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland, where his father worked as head of maintenance. At 15, he became the youngest boys' singles champion in Orange Bowl history. Then came the semifinals at the 2022 US Open, repeated in 2024 and again in 2026. He peaked at world No. 8 in September 2026, currently sits as American No. 2, and has turned a childhood spent around borrowed courts into a career that belongs entirely to him.
