Frances Browne was an Irish poet and novelist. Browne became blind after contracting smallpox as a young child. She wrote her first poem at age 7, and went on to write essays, reviews, stories, and poems. She is best remembered for her collection of short stories for children, Granny's Wonderful Chair.
