He succeeded Bishop Francis Anani Kofi Lodonu, who retired. While bishop, Emmanuel Kofi Fianu served as Apostolic Administrator of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Keta-Akatsi from 7 April 2016 until 13 May 2017.
