Emma Elizabeth Smith was a woman of uncertain origins who was murdered in late‑19th-century London. Her killing was the first of the Whitechapel murders. Although it has been suggested that she may have been an early victim of the serial killer known as "Jack the Ripper", most modern authors consider this unlikely.
