He put Beirut on the couture map. Elie Saab's signature - lace, crystals, embroidery layered into gowns that photograph like architecture - made him the first Lebanese designer admitted to Paris's Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the guild that decides who gets to call their work couture at all.

About this person
Elie Saab launched his business in Lebanon in the early 1980s, starting with bridal couture and building a reputation on meticulous craft: gemstones, pearls, embroidery, lace worked into structured silhouettes. By 2017 his collections were selling in Paris, London, and Beirut, with ready-to-wear distributed through 160 retailers and his own boutiques. The Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture made him a member, the first Lebanese designer granted that credential. In 2016 he judged Project Runway: Middle East.
