He wrote from the radical fringe, built a banned party that fused Soviet nostalgia with nationalist fury, and spent decades as a thorn in the Kremlin's side — a poet who became a politician Moscow couldn't ignore.

Biography

About

Eduard Veniaminovich Limonov was born Savenko on 22 February 1943. He left the Soviet Union in 1974 as a writer and poet, living in emigration for nearly two decades. He returned to Russia in 1991 and founded the National Bolshevik Party, a movement that blended communist imagery with nationalist edge. The party was banned in 2007, replaced by The Other Russia — a coalition of opposition forces he helped lead through the 2000s. He died on 17 March 2020, having spent half his life outside the system and the other half fighting it from within.
