David Andrew Sinclair was born June 26, 1969, in Australia and landed eventually at Harvard Medical School, where he became a professor of genetics. He founded the Paul F. Glenn Laboratories for the Biological Mechanisms of Aging there, a perch from which to chase the mechanisms that make bodies break down over time. The research centered on epigenetics - the signals that turn genes on and off - and whether tweaking those signals might alter the pace of decline. In 2019 he co-authored Lifespan: Why We Age - and Why We Don't Have To, a book that laid the case for the public. The work gave him a platform and a following, people drawn to the idea that the curve might bend.
