A Big Bang member who found an unexpected lane: trot ballads in Korea, arena dominance in Japan. Daesung built a solo career that made him the first Korean artist to pull 100,000 fans across two consecutive Japanese tours, then matched Michael Jackson as one of two foreign men with back-to-back number one albums there.

Kang Dae-sung debuted with Big Bang in 2006 and broke out solo two years later with "Look at Me, Gwisoon," a trot song that hit number one in Korea. By 2012 he had two Top 10 tracks on the Gaon chart, including "Wings" from Big Bang's Alive. He pivoted to Japan in 2013 with D'scover, his first solo album there, and the momentum never let up: two more albums followed in 2014, Delight topping the chart, and the D'slove Tour made him the first Korean soloist to gather over 100,000 fans for two Japanese tours running. In 2017 he played four dome shows to 150,000 people and released D-Day, his second consecutive number one album in Japan - a feat only Michael Jackson had managed among foreign male soloists. On Korean television he spent two years on the top-rated comedy Family Outing, appeared in the 2011 musical drama What's Up, and co-hosted the talk show Night After Night in 2010.
