Richard Craig Oppel is an American former competition swimmer who represented the United States at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, winning a gold medal in the 4x200 freestyle relay. After graduating the University of California at Los Angeles in 1989 where he competed in swimming, he completed a JD Degree at Drake University in 1995 in Des Moines and practiced law in Muscatine, Iowa.
