Biography
About
Decimus Clodius Albinus was born around 150 into an empire that would tear itself apart over his lifetime. When Pertinax was murdered in 193 — the Year of the Five Emperors — the legions in Britain and Hispania proclaimed Albinus emperor, one of several rival claimants. He struck an arrangement with Septimius Severus, another contender, and for a time the two pretended the empire could hold them both. In 196 the truce collapsed and they turned their armies on each other. Albinus died in battle on 19 February 197, his claim extinguished with him.
