Clementine Churchill

Clementine Ogilvy Spencer-Churchill was born in 1885, her paternity uncertain — legally the daughter of Sir Henry Hozier, though her mother's infidelity and his suspected infertility cast doubt. She met Churchill in 1904, married him in 1908, and they had five children; one, Marigold, died at two from sepsis. During the First World War she organised canteens for munitions workers. During the Second she chaired the Red Cross Aid to Russia Fund, led the YWCA War Time Appeal, and ran a maternity hospital in South Bucks.
