Biography

About

Born in Paris on 12 January 1628, Charles Perrault entered the Académie Française and became a central figure in the 17th-century French literary scene, leading the Modern faction during the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns. In 1697 he published Histoires ou contes du temps passé, a collection drawn from earlier folk tales that included "Puss in Boots", "Bluebeard", and the stories that would define the fairy tale genre itself. His versions influenced the Brothers Grimm more than a century later and continued to be adapted across nearly every entertainment format. He died on 16 May 1703…
