Charles K. Bliss was an Austrian-Australian chemical engineer and semiotician, best known as the inventor of Blissymbols, an ideographic writing system. He was born in Chernivtsi, Bukovina, Austria-Hungary but was forced to flee to Australia during the Second World War as a Jewish refugee fleeing the Nazis.
