Catherine Simone Avnet Lazarus was born April 26, 1976, and built a career in New York comedy writing and performing that earned her "Best Comedy Writer" at the ECNY Awards and a spot on the city's "Top 100 New Yorkers" list. She created Employee of the Month, a live show filmed at Joe's Pub where the format was simple: sit down with someone known and ask them about the work itself. The New York Times called it "beloved," BlackBook called it "hilarious" and "ambitious," and Lewis Black said she was "more brilliant than she'll ever know." She died December 13, 2020, at 44.
