Carl Siegmund Franz Credé was a German gynecologist and obstetrician born in Berlin, most famous for preventing neonatal conjunctivitis via Credé's prophylaxis, a dilute silver nitrate solution dropped into the eye immediately after birth, thus saving the eyesight of millions.
