Brent Ronald Peterson was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach. He played 11 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with four teams, primarily as a low-scoring checker with a reputation as a strong defensive forward. After his playing career ended, he became an assistant coach with the Whalers before later serving as head coach of the Portland Winterhawks, where he won the Memorial Cup in 1998. Peterson soon became an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators, retiring in 2011 for health reasons. He was later an adviser for the team and served on the radio broadcasts for three years.
