Co-founded Hewlett-Packard with David Packard — the company that turned a Palo Alto garage into the birthplace myth of Silicon Valley and built an empire on oscillators, computers, and printers.
William Redington Hewlett was born May 20, 1913. He trained as an engineer and met David Packard, with whom he started the Hewlett-Packard Company. Together they built HP into one of the defining technology firms of the twentieth century. Hewlett died January 12, 2001.
