Bertil Gotthard Ohlin spent most of his career at the Stockholm School of Economics, where he taught from 1929 to 1965. Working with Eli Heckscher, he built the Heckscher-Ohlin model, a mathematical account of how differences in national resources shape trade patterns. He also led Sweden's People's Party for over two decades, from 1944 to 1967, positioning it as the main liberal opposition to the Social Democrats, and served briefly as Minister of Commerce and Industry during the war coalition government from 1944 to 1945. He twice held the presidency of the Nordic Council, in 1959 and 1964. In 1977, he shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with James Meade for contributions to the theory of international trade and capital movements.
