Biography

About

Born around 1205, Batu was the son of Jochi and grandson of Genghis Khan. After his grandfather's death, he established the Golden Horde as part of the fractured Mongol Empire. His ulus imposed control over Kievan Rus', Volga Bulgaria, Cumania, and the Caucasus. That dominion held for roughly 250 years. He died in 1255.
