Barack Obama Sr.

Born Baraka Hussein Obama in Kenya in 1934, he married Kezia in 1954 and had two children before a fellowship brought him to the University of Hawaii, where he met Ann Dunham. They married in 1961 after she became pregnant with Barack, divorced three years later, and Obama moved to Harvard for a master's in economics. He returned to Kenya in 1964, saw his son once when the boy was about ten, and married Ruth Beatrice Baker, with whom he had two sons before they divorced in 1973. He rose to senior economic analyst in the Ministry of Finance, part of a Western-educated cohort supported by Tom Mboya, but conflicts with President Kenyatta got him fired and blacklisted. Three serious car accidents marked his final years; the last killed him in 1982.
