Assaat Datuk Mudo, known as Mr. Assaat, was born in Banuhampu, Agam, West Sumatra, Dutch East Indies. He was the only President of the Yogyakarta-based Republic of Indonesia before it became the part of the United States of Indonesia, and was in office from December 1949 until August 1950.
