Amon inherited the throne from his father Manasseh of Judah, becoming the fifteenth king in the line. His reign lasted only two years, marked by a return to idolatrous worship that alienated enough of his inner circle to spark a revolt. The conspiracy came from within the palace itself. Around 641 BC, his own officials assassinated him, cutting short whatever trajectory his rule might have taken.
