Amancio Ortega Gaona was born 28 March 1936 in Spain and founded Inditex, the parent company behind Zara and Bershka. He's credited as a pioneer of fast fashion, collapsing the cycle between runway and storefront. In 2015 his net worth hit $80 billion as Inditex stock surged, making him briefly the richest person on earth, ahead of Bill Gates. Today he sits at $147 billion, second in Europe behind Bernard Arnault and tenth globally. He leads the Ortega family and ranks as the second-wealthiest retailer in the world.
