About
Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail was born on 3 October 1804 in France and spent his early career as an educator, translator, and writer. At midlife he adopted the pseudonym Allan Kardec and began attending séances, convinced the spirits speaking through mediums were offering systematic truths about the afterlife. He compiled their messages into five books—the Spiritist Codification—laying out reincarnation, moral progress, and communication with the dead as core tenets.
