He also wrote historical novels, the most famous being Oh Islam! and The Red Revolutionary. He is also a translator, for he translated Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Bakathir was awarded many medals, including the State Prize of Appreciation, shared equally with Naguib Mahfouz.
