Demographer, anthropologist and historian of the French economy (1898–1990)
Alfred Sauvy was a demographer, anthropologist and historian of the French economy. Sauvy made an important early use of the phrase Third World in reference to countries that were unaligned with either the Western bloc or the Eastern bloc during the Cold War, for which he has often been credited with coining the phrase.
