Alexey Yakovlevich Chervonenkis was a Soviet and Russian mathematician. Along with Vladimir Vapnik, he was one of the main developers of the Vapnik-Chervonenkis theory, also known as the "fundamental theory of learning", an important part of computational learning theory.
