King of Germany (1255-1308)
A Habsburg duke who took the German throne at the edge of the fourteenth century and held it for a decade before someone killed him. The snarl and the hollow eye socket came from an earlier fight.
Albert was born in July 1255, eldest son of Rudolf I of Germany and Gertrude of Hohenberg. A battle injury left him with a hollow eye socket and a permanent snarl, earning him the name Albert the One-eyed. He became Duke of Austria and Styria in 1282, then took the German kingship in 1298. He ruled until 1 May 1308, when he was assassinated.
