Biography

About

Son and successor of Jotham, Ahaz took the throne at 20 and ruled for 16 years — the dates remain disputed, with estimates placing his reign around 744–728 BC or 732–716 BC, possibly beginning as co-regent with his father. The Second Book of Kings portrays him harshly. Isaiah references him twice, in chapters 7 and 14. The Gospel of Matthew includes him in the lineage tracing back to Jesus, preserving his name in the genealogical record where otherwise it might have faded entirely.
