He previously served has the minister of State for Health from 2019 to 2022. He served as the senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District from 2003 to 2011, and as speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
