Adele Laurie Blue Adkins signed with XL Recordings straight out of the BRIT School in 2006, releasing 19 two years later - a debut strong enough to earn her a Best New Artist Grammy. Then came 21 in 2011, which became the best-selling album of the 21st century and sat atop the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks, a US chart record. "Rolling in the Deep", "Someone like You", and "Set Fire to the Rain" became her signature songs, and the album took six Grammys including Album of the Year. She wrote "Skyfall" for the Bond film in 2012, winning an Academy Award. Her third album, 25, broke first-week sales records in 2015 - over three million copies sold in the US alone - and swept five more Grammys. 30 followed in 2021 with "Easy on Me", another worldwide chart leader. Both 25 and 30 became the year's best-selling albums globally, and she remains the best-selling female artist of the 21st century in the UK.
