American swimmer, Olympic gold medalist, former world record-holder (1907-1996)
Adelaide Lambert Ballard was an American competition swimmer for the Women's Swimming Association of New York, who earned a gold medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, setting a world record in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay. She set a number of American swimming records, and set a world record in February, 1927, during the Women's National AAU Indoor Swimming Championships in Buffalo, New York, in the 300-yard medley of 4:34.4.
