Chinese poet (1898–1948)
Zhu Ziqing, born Zhu Zihua, courtesy name Peixian (佩弦) and art name Shiqiu (實秋), was a Chinese essayist, poet, scholar and educator. A native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang, and born in what is now Donghai County, Jiangsu, he is chiefly remembered for his essays in vernacular Chinese and for his early new poetry. He is especially associated with such prose pieces as Retreating Figure and Moonlight over the Lotus Pond. He served as a professor and later head of the Department of Chinese at Tsinghua University and, during the Second Sino-Japanese War, at the National Southwestern Associated University.
