Since 1 September 2021, he had used to be a federal deputy and the current president of the Congress of the Union and of the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies. However, Creel resigned from his position as president of the Chamber of Deputies on August 14, 2023, to pursue the presidential nomination for the 2024 elections.
