Biography

About

Born 2 July 1882, Marie was the only child of Roland Bonaparte and Marie-Félix Blanc, who died shortly after childbirth. Through her father she descended from Lucien, Napoleon's rebellious younger brother — a secondary branch, no claim to the imperial throne. Through her mother she inherited the real money: François Blanc had developed Monte Carlo, and the casino wealth came to her. She married into Greek royalty, becoming Princess George of Greece and Denmark, but her enduring tie was to Sigmund Freud. She became a psychoanalyst herself, poured funds into the movement, and in 1938 used her re…
