Born 3 April 1973, Prabhu Deva spent the 1990s and early 2000s as an actor in commercially successful Tamil films like Kaadhalan (1994) and Minsara Kanavu (1997), building a reputation that carried through critically praised turns in Vanathai Pola (2000) and Engal Anna (2004) before his box office pull began to fade. His choreography work - designing dance styles across hundreds of films - earned him two National Film Awards for Best Choreography and, eventually, the Padma Shri in 2019. The pivot came in 2005 with his directorial debut, the Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which opened the door to a second act: he went on to direct high-grossing projects across three languages, including Pokkiri (2007), Wanted (2009), Rowdy Rathore (2012), and Singh is Bliing (2015). The dancer became the architect of the frame.
