Pope
He held the papacy for seven weeks in 1045 — one of three men claiming the throne of Saint Peter that year, in the middle of Rome's ugliest ecclesiastical mess.
Born John in Rome around the year 1000, he rose through the church to become bishop of Rome on 20 January 1045. His papacy lasted exactly fifty days, ending on 10 March the same year — a reign so brief it barely registered against the chaos swallowing the medieval church. He lived another eighteen years after losing the office, dying in October 1063.
