About

A tantric master from medieval India, Padmasambhava arrived in Tibet during the reign of King Trisong Detsen and designed Samye Monastery, the first Buddhist monastery on Tibetan soil. Alongside the king and Khenpo Shantarakshita, he helped create the Tibetan Canon by translating the Buddha's teachings into Tibetan. His historical existence — once questioned by scholars, now cautiously accepted — rests on early sources like the Testament of Ba and marks in rocks said to be his footprints.
