Ötzi

Ötzi lived during the Chalcolithic period, somewhere in what became the Alps. On 19 September 1991, hikers found his naturally mummified remains emerging from a glacier in the Ötztal Alps, right where Austria meets Italy. The body carried an arrowhead embedded in the left shoulder and other wounds — evidence that someone killed him more than five millennia ago. He became Europe's oldest known natural human mummy, offering an unmatched snapshot of Copper Age life.
