About this person
Minoru Yamasaki was born December 1, 1912, and became one of two architects widely considered a master of "New Formalism" alongside Edward Durell Stone. Over a three-decade career, his firm designed more than 250 buildings, working at a scale few practices reach. The World Trade Center commission in New York brought him his widest recognition, a pair of towers that would define lower Manhattan's silhouette for a generation. His firm, Yamasaki & Associates, continued long after his death on February 6, 1986, finally closing its doors on December 31, 2009.
