Abū l-Saʿādāt al-Mubārak b. Muḥammad (al-Athīr) b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Karīm b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Shaybānī al-Jazarī al-Mawṣilī, commonly known as Majd ad-Dīn Ibn Athir was a prominent traditionist, lexicographer, philologist, and a jurist of the Shafi'i school. He is regarded as one of the leading hadith scholars of the seventh century A.H.
