Heil Hitler! (when asked to state his name) You know my name well. Julius Streicher! The Bolsheviks will hang you one day! (to the hangman) Purim festival, 1946!
German publisher, Nazi politician and convicted war criminal (1885-1946)
Publisher of Der Stürmer, the Nazi paper that turned antisemitic incitement into a multimillion-mark enterprise. At Nuremberg he became the first member of the regime convicted for propaganda alone — hanged for words printed while he knew murder was underway.
Born 12 February 1885, Streicher rose through the Nazi Party to become Gauleiter of Franconia and a member of the Reichstag. He founded Der Stürmer, a virulently antisemitic newspaper that became central to Nazi propaganda and made him a multimillionaire. After the war the Nuremberg Tribunal found he had continued publishing his incitement even when aware Jews were being murdered. On 16 October 1946 he was executed by hanging, convicted of crimes against humanity — the first Nazi held accountable specifically for inciting genocide.
