Biography

About

Known in Greek as Ioúdas Iakóbou and identified as Thaddeus in various traditions, Jude was one of the Apostles in the New Testament, sometimes called Judas Thaddaeus or Judas son of James. Early English translators abbreviated his name to separate him from Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus before the crucifixion, though most non-English translations still use the same name for both. He received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost alongside the other apostles — a moment commemorated in icons that show a flame around his head.
