Born April 26 in Namibia, du Plessis launched her singing career in 1998 with the album Juanita and swept the Country Music Association awards that year - best singer, best songwriter, outstanding achievement. Her record sales climbed past 3,000,000. In 2010 she won a South African Music Award for her 10 Year Hit Celebration DVD, a collection of the decade's biggest tracks. The Huisgenoot Tempo Awards crowned her most popular female artist from 2005 through 2011. By 2018, twenty years in, she released 20 Jaar - Treffers van 2008-2018, a greatest hits spanning the second decade of a career that made Afrikaans country a commercial force.
