John Galliano

John Charles Galliano was born 28 November 1960 in Britain and became one of fashion's most technically gifted designers, named British Designer of the Year four times and ranked fifth most influential person in British culture by the BBC in 2004. He led his own label and held creative directorships at Givenchy and Dior, houses where his work redefined haute couture theatricality. In 2011 he made antisemitic remarks that severed his relationship with Dior and sent him into professional exile. He returned in 2014 as creative director of Maison Margiela, a post he held for a decade, but in August 2026 the Metropolitan Museum of Art cancelled a planned 2027 retrospective of his work after renewed criticism over those remarks resurfaced.
