Biography

About

Irma Ilse Ida Grese was born 7 October 1923. She served as a guard at Ravensbrück, then Auschwitz II-Birkenau, then Bergen-Belsen. During that service she committed atrocities that earned her the names "Hyena of Auschwitz" and "Beast of Belsen." After the Allied occupation in April 1945, she stood trial at Belsen and was found guilty of war crimes involving the torture and murder of Jewish prisoners. She was sentenced to death by hanging and executed 13 December 1945.
